ASHLEY MADISON HACK

Privacy

Ashley Madison is a website that married people use to cheat on their significant others. They sign up for the account and are able to meet other anonymous users in real life. The website promised security and privacy but a group of hackers were able to access users’ information. Real names, addresses, credit card transactions, and search history were released on the deep web. Only people that had access to the deep web could view the list of people. However, someone published the list on the regular internet for anyone to view. This violates the privacy of the users. Anyone can now read the list that exposes their names and addresses. These users could lose their senses of security and their families. People can be blackmailed with this information and at least two suicides were linked to the data leak.

This affects you because it shows that any information you put on the internet can be accessed. Even information you enter into secure websites can be found. You can stay safe by not entering anything private on websites.
